My sessions with you
My first session with you will be an opportunity for us to discuss your problems, goals and aspirations, thoughts and feelings, in a safe and supportive space. The initial consultation aims at identifying the problem areas and goals, including any relevant background information. It is also a time for both of us to discuss how we will be working together and to decide whether this is the best treatment choice for you at the moment and if not, I will advise you on a more appropriate route to take.
My training as a psychologist allows me the flexibility to draw on a wide range of psychological theories and practice of therapeutic approach. My main therapeutic approaches are Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Approach: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
These approaches complement one another in the treatment of all major mental health problems and are also effective in the management of physical problems, illnesses including chronic conditions.
My sessions are tailored to each individual needs. When we first meet, we will agree on a certain number of sessions bearing in mind that most courses of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy (CBT) last from 5 to 15 sessions. Mindfulness-Based Approach: MBCT and MBSR are typically taught as a 8-week course. Some chronic or lifelong problems may require longer term treatment.
Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Approach (MBCT and MBSR) are not a magical cure but more like learning a new way of thinking and being that requires practice. This is why the sessions will usually take place on a weekly basis so that you can make plenty of time to practice in between sessions.
Throughout the therapy, you will be working towards specific goals that we will identify together and towards becoming your own therapist by practising between our therapy sessions.
